I'm pretty sure I am going to lose my job

And it's not my fault.

Gross $$ mismanagement means we are losing both faculty and programs. And no, they won't tell us who yet. 10 days to sweat it out.

Anybody know anyone looking for science PhDs?

Maybe I will get to take advantage of that mortgage bailout after all.

Now, if you'll excuse me I need to clean up my face and go teach while I still have a class TO teach.

I have no advice to give you. All I have to offer are my best wishes and prayers, and you've got both.

I am sorry to hear it and wish you well. I'm pretty much on the same edge too.

Given that you live in California I'd guess that one round of cuts won't be enough. Dust off your resume and start making phone calls. I have no doubt you can make it through this one way or another.

I am so sorry to hear that! You will be in my thoughts.

*sigh* Of course this is what happened to my husband a few years ago. Then last month he managed to make it through the layoffs at his company. They told everyone before Christmas there would be big layoffs in January.

He had to sit and sweat it out all day that day. Didn't find out he wasn't on the list until 6pm when his boss called to say the layoffs were done.

Layoffs suck pond water big time. I'm really sorry you have to go through this. Only advice I have is write up your resume and start looking right now for something else. It's basically all you can do and it's awful.

More good thoughts headed your way.
