In case you didn't already KNOW that PETA sucks

They refuse to help the poor stranded cattle who are starving to death after the CO snowstorms last week (from here, but you have to scroll way down):

"For those of you who have been living in total isolation the past few weeks, Colorado has been hit with some serious snowstorms. We’re talking serious as even the Rocky Mountain veterans are unable to move around.

The last blast of storms left an estimated 340,000 cows and steers stranded by snowstorms, unable to get to food. The storms have been major enough that the Colorado National Guard has been frantically trying to get food to ranchers, but haven’t been able to do much more than airlift in hay bales and hope for the best.

Enter a couple of Colorado morning-radio folks named Rick Lewis and (I’m not making this up) Michael Floorwax. They called PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and asked them if the group would help feed and rescue the stranded animals.

PETA spokesperson Reannon Peterson didn’t just say no, she explained that, since the animals were probably going to “wind up on somebody’s plate in six months” helping them probably “wasn’t really the most noble cause.”

She went on to rationalize that the wild animals - the same ones PETA wants hunters to leave alone - also weren’t going to get PETA help (funds). “It’s an act of God,” she explained, “there’s really nothing to be done.”

It gets better. Colorado Governor Bill Owens steps in with both guns blazing.

At that point, Governor Owens let loose. Last Thursday morning, he was on the same radio station. And he spoke his mind - and read the minds of many of the rest of us.

PETA, he said, are "a bunch of losers and 'frauds'" adding that he was amazed PETA wouldn't help. Aid, he said, was "symbolic of what PETA stands for."

In his parting shot - which he repeated in other interviews, Owens called PETA "a strange group of people. Don't give your money to PETA."

The Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), a group that regularly skewers PETA and the "food police" for actions like New York City's recent ban on all trans-fats, has not let this latest PETA decision go unnoticed. After all, the Center notes, it's the same group whose president wished for a hoof-and-mouth epidemic in 2001. "Seeing the livelihood of cattle ranchers evaporate," they say, "is probably a cheap trill."

Not sparing anyone, the CCF also notes that despite raising $145 million dollars last year, the Humane Society of the United States isn't spending any of their money on hay bales or helicopters.

In such partisan sparring, it's normal for one group to take another's comments out of context. It's also not unusual for politicians to make a comment with a few quick "waffle words" added to the end.

Not this time. Colorado Governor Bill Owens pulled the mittens off and spoke from his gut. If you want to listen and decide for yourself, you can access the PETA interview and Governor Owens' comments online at these addresses:

You'll get no complaints from me. I can't stand PETA, either. If it'll make them happy, I'll eat every cat and squirrel I flatten on the way to work. Mmmmmm, kitty frisbee...

PETA doesn't bother me, they have the right to their beliefs. I think they are idiots and go about it the wrong way, but hey it's their time.

This I must laugh at. This completely goes against what they stand for.

I tried really hard to comment last night... comment spam sucks!

PETA are idiots. Once someone claims association with PETA I give their IQ a 50% drop from what I thought it might be.

I have known for years PETA has no concept of what they say they stand for and what they do. Similar to Teresa, if someone claims association with PETA, I give their IQ a drop and usually walk away.
