Stolen from Ken

This is an interesting little Meme, especially as folks of different ages have different memories of the same events....

Stolen from Ken, who in turn took it from Wunderkraut

Where Were You, What Were You Doing And How Did You Feel When…:

You found out about 9/11
The start of the FIRST Gulf War - When we began combat operations.
The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded
The Space Shuttle Columbia broke up during re-entry
Reagan was shot
John Lennon was shot
The Pope was shot
Berlin Wall came down
President Clinton was acquitted of impeachment
Election night 2000
When Kennedy was shot (for my more mature readers)

My answers in the extended....

Where Were You, What Were You Doing And How Did You Feel When…:

You found out about 9/11: I was still asleep. DH was still in the army. He saw it during breakfast and called and woke me up, told me to turn on the TV.... Just in time to see the second plane hit the towers...

The start of the FIRST Gulf War - When we began combat operations: Hmm let's see, I was like 14, I think I was at home, watching the news. I remember dire predictions about what would happen if they fought back, and then we just slaughtered the crap out of them. Never could understand why GHWB never went to Baghdad to take out Saddam then and there....

The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded: Third grade. We were supposed to watch the launch, as the "alternate" teacher in space was from Fresno. We came in to watch it after recess and instead watched the aftermath for hours.

The Space Shuttle Columbia broke up during re-entry: Sunday morning. DH and I were laying in bed, playing with the dog, and I turned on the TV to see "what blew up last night". The FNC folks were just cutting to the expected landing. Then it all went to hell.

Reagan was shot: I was 4. I remember seeing the footage on the news, and wondering if Hinckley was a Commie.

John Lennon was shot: Yeah, so completely didn't register. John Who?

The Pope was shot: I remember this mostly because we had just switched from John Paul to John Paul II and I was wondering if the next pope would be John Paul III...

Berlin Wall came down: My 13th birthday. Hell of a party.

President Clinton was acquitted of impeachment: I don't remember this as well as I do the infamous speech... When he denied doing anything with Monica, I was in my dorm room watching with friends (liberal and conservative) and we all said foul things about what a friggin' liar he was....

Election night 2000: Glued to FNC until 4 AM EST that night, barely changed the channel until it was over.

When Kennedy was shot (for my more mature readers): Yeah, well, seeing as I was born almost exactly 13 years later, I'll give you a bonus:
The Branch Davidian raid: I was home sick, curled up in Mom's recliner with a cup of tea and a blanket, watching TV. I don't remember if I was watching CNN or if it was a network break-in, but I remember the ATF guys busting the doors and the whole place going up in flames.... Pretty cool to watch, actually.

It's remarkable just how many of us were "just in time to see the second plane hit." I was going through e-mail, then I hit MSNBC and saw the picture on the web as it was breaking, said "oh my God this must be on TV!" and ran to the living room. I don't think more than 5 minutes passed before the second plane hit live during the totally derailed Today Show.

I was 2 for Kennedy, so I remember nothing, though in 8th grade I had a classmate, Shari Minturn, for whom it was a memorable enough day to stick even at that age.

I think 4 AM was the time I went to bed, too. Eastern time.
